The above article is an overview of how Disney creates a magical experience for their customers through their training. Every business has a different workplace spirit, Disney chooses the path of pulling customers in with magic. Disney's wants all their employees to create the best time of a child's life.

Disney states, "You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world É [sic] but it requires people to make the dream a reality." Disney wants their employees to help customers experience something they never have before.  In order for this to happen intensive training is done with the employees.

In the article it shows that motivational types of training is used where Disney believes their employees enjoy working with them.

What stood out to me the most in this article was the how Disney training is so important and rigorous to the  service of Disney and to the motivation and work atmosphere at Disney.  This article demonstrates how Disney's OB management is done throughout the company.

Disney's training program is one of the most inspiring programs.  Many corporations learn from Disney's program and mimic some of the ways they train their employees.

  1. Disney is such a magical place and therefore I believe that such rigorous training is necessary. I think the quote states it all in regards to actually creating the reality of a magical place takes the actual employees. Disney has to hire certain personality types, just like we learned Zappos has to, in order to have the correct fit. The training also is necessary because Disney has a certain standard to keep constant and their employees must know how to act to create that magical feeling for the customers. The employees also have to be motivated to want to create that feeling.

  2. It seems that Disney employees must have both great person-organization fit, and person-job fit-and reading this blog post, it's evident Disney wants to make sure its employees are the best fit not only for the organization, but for their specific job as well.
In looking at the MBTI personality types, a Disney employee must be introverted, deriving their energy from inside, to work at Disney. A Disney employee cannot rely on their environment to get energy and be positive, but rather get their energy from inside, motivating and giving their energy to their customers.
Out of the big five personality traits, what ones do you guys see as crucial for Disney employees?

  3. Lauren I agree with you, I believe one of the most important personality for a Disney worker to have is to be introverted. Without this type of personality it would be very hard to be a Disney worker. Disney looks for individuals who are self motivated as Tara stated above. With the rigorous training that Disney does it weeds out those who are not truly up to their standards or cold even be what Disney is looking for. Disney is looking to create a magical experience and with out an outgoing personality and constant happiness it would be hard to fulfill their expectations.

  4. As soon as I think of Disney, fireworks go off in my mind! For any company's policies/ purpose/ mission they need their employees to represent them in every way. It is not surprising the training that Disney employees endure.
As far as the Big Five personality traits, openness and extroversion are definitely traits that employees need to do well in the company.
Clearly the training methods that Disney utilizes is effective and other companies notice! I think it is smart that they are learning from Disney.
